Afghans Warn on Taliban

Eight visas had already been cancelled after background checks found their claims of Afghan nationality to be false.

Terrorists trained by al-Qaeda and the Taliban in Afghanistan could have made their way to Australia, Afghanistan's foreign minister has warned.

Dr Abdullah Abdullah said in Canberra yesterday hundreds of al-Qaeda members were on the run worldwide and it was possible some had come here on forged documents.

His warning came as the Government said there was no evidence to support claims that dozens of asylum seekers claiming to be Afghan had links to al-Qaeda.
