"We won't be intimidated by threats from terrorists," Mr Howard told Parliament. "I am quite sure I speak for all Australians in saying that we will not be intimidated in relation to the policies we pursue by threats from terrorists."

In a taped statement he praised the Bali bombings and warned of more acts of terrorism against the citizens of seven nations, including Australia. Agencies from the US and other western nations are trying to authenticate the voice on the tape which was broadcast by the Arabian Al Jazeera network.

Last night, several experts said it was bin Laden.

Bin Laden hailed the Bali bombings and said they were aimed at Australians in retaliation for its participation in the United Nations occupation of Afghanistan.

"We warned Australia before not to join in (the war) in Afghanistan, and (we warned against) its despicable effort to separate East Timor," the statement said.
