The thrust is to keep Afghanistan in the public's eye. Not an easy task, with the media reps scampering off to the predictable non-war in Iraq. That "new" story will die quick, and Afghanistan will turn into a think-piece, a human interest project, a high school report.
Well, we didn't let that happen with Japan, and we didn't let that happen with South Korea. I see no reason to start now -- but there are so many kids in this land who simply don't get it.
