Star guilt

<...Must hurt a lot to be a movie star.

There's a lot of guilt involved. My theory: Most of them look at themselves in the mirror every morning and ask themselves if they really deserve to get tens of millions of dollars for standing in front of a camera and reading somebody else's lines. Given that guilt burden, it's not at all surprising that most are raging leftists, as well as anesthesizing themselves at every opportunity. Having everyone around you acting like your shit don't stink doesn't make for a healthy view of reality either.

If only they knew something about the market, I could reassure them. Supply and demand--if there is only one of something, the demand, and price, will be very high. Arnold Schwartzenegger can ask for millions for a picture because he's the only person in existence who can make an Arnold movie. Supply = 1, Demand = sky high. And even after they pay him millions, the company still makes big bucks, and the customers love the movies. Everyone is happy, and no guilt is required. Of course, Arnold probably knows this, being a conservative, which is why he looks a lot happier than most liberal movie stars do.

The same applies to sports stars. If there were ten thousand people who could play basketball like Michael Jordan, he would not be getting millions of dollars either.

Fortunately for their sanity, unlike poor Winona, a lot of stars can apparently shut down their brains and suppress this guilt successfully by avoiding the rational conclusions entirely, which is why someone like Robert Redford can cheerfully sit on thousands of acres of ranch land and bitch about people using too many resources.
