As you point out, supply and demand often has a lot more to do with quantity, not quality. There are two million teachers. There is one Winona Ryder. She can therefore command a lot more money. That doesn't mean that any teacher pulled randomly out of the crowd isn't probably worth two Winona Ryders by any personal objective measures.
