<If man is to survive on this planet, someday he must evolve from weapons-maker and warrior into something else.

Someday soon.

The trick, I suppose, is to find the profits of peace. Most of us would agree that peace is its own reward, but we need to show that it can also be profitable.



I think it goes without saying that peace and prosperity are much more profitable than war for almost every business with the exception of weapons makers. And the former outnumber the latter by quite a bit. An auto company can't sell cars to poor, ravaged populations.

Humans live on this Earth by being productive, using their brains and skills to modify the environment to create wealth for survival at first, and eventually for enjoyment. As long as there are people who think it's easier to take the wealth by force from those who produced it instead of producing it themselves, we will need to defend ourselves with weapons and defensive systems at least the equivalent, and preferably superior, to those of the looters.

Then there are those for whom power alone is enough of a goal to enslave others. For them, the wealth is not important, only that millions look on them as gods. These are not as common as the looters, but they are the scary ones. The thug rulers living high on their looted wealth are actually easier to deal with.
