There's a conflict of values between the Islam world and the western world.
All those countries in trouble have been colonized by western countries which tried to provide them with our values. It failed and we got out.
Now, the US has established more and more military bases, imposing its presence in those Islam countries, to the disapproval of its population.
That's why Islamism is thriving: from our misunderstanding and from the western influence.

Maybe their definition of freedom is first "freedom from our influence".
After all, Turkey seems to manage quite well with a secular power (inspite of an islamist governement),and democracy. But Turkey had not been colonized.

We should let them find out by themselves what our values are (like what's going on in Iran) rather than impose them on their population.
