The Republicans would be a lot more successful if they could lock themselves into a united, mindless wall of defense like the Democrats do when one of their own screws the pooch.* Just get rid of those nasty consciences and life would be a lot easier.

Not one single Democratic Senator voted to convict Clinton. Some Republicans voted one way, some another. Clinton walked into that trial with a grin, knowing damn well that even if he had cut someone's throat on national TV, still not one Democrat would have voted for conviction.
