Lower the bar
<Finding an equitable solution would be in the long term self-interest of the pharmaceutical companies.
Again, figuring out some way to drastically lower the regulatory bar to market a drug, without compromising REASONABLE safety, would be the best way to deal with this. Don't know exactly how to do this.
If it was much less expensive to bring a drug to market, the companies wouldn't need to keep a death grip on the formula for so long to keep from going broke. Also, many more alternatives would become available, and many smaller and innovative companies could enter the game.
