Okay, screwed up the coding again. Last part should look like this:

<Remember Afghanistan? Yes, we're still there, warring away. Bombing and attacking and killing. Haven't caught a single al Qaeda leader of note yet. That looks bad for Dubya. Killed a few thousand civilians though. Shrug.

We are not "warring away." Not anymore. We destroyed many terrorists and a number of leaders, and obliterated their Afghanistan infrastructure. Not bad, all things considered.

Depending on who you ask, somewhere under 4,000 Afghan civilians in all died of military actions between the start of the American effort and March of 2002. While this is not insignificant, especially to those involved, in the annals of major military campaigns it is a goddam miracle. I have found no significant casualties since then, with some outstanding exceptions like the bombing of the "wedding party" in July, which killed about 50 people according to the U.N. The fact that nothing else of this nature has made major headlines in the world news since then should tell you something.

What we are currently engaged in is rebuilding Afghanistan, a fact which does not fit neatly into the author's loathing of Bush and America. Suggest you browse this site for a while. Take your time.
