Re: Military men urge caution

<I don't understand. Iraq isn't currently attacking us or invading any ally.

1. Saddam Hussein has, in the past, spent a great deal of time and effort to develop weapons of mass destruction. The fact that he was stopped after the Gulf War for a time does not change this fact. There is no evidence whatsoever to indicate that Saddam has suddenly become uninterested in WMD, and a lot to indicate that he is still working on them.

2. Saddam Hussein has, in the past, attacked neighboring nations with the intent of taking over their territory.

3. Saddam Hussein has demonstrated utter ruthlessness in dealing with his own people, never mind people in other nations.

4. Saddam Hussein sees himself as the leader of an Arab supernation, and one that will eventually obliterate the blight of Israel once and for all.

There are damn few nations that combine all of these things at the same time. North Korea is probably closest.

If something isn't done, and given a few more years, it is logically inevitable that Hussein or his son will eventually come boiling out of the Iraqi borders armed with atomic bombs.

As I've told many others here, if you have a better idea to stop this than military action, I'd love to hear it. And if you say "let the inspections work," I'm going to make you explain exactly how that could be done.
