Re: More effective to NOT arrest suspected terrorists...

"After Muslim terrorists murdered 3,000 people on Sep. 11, Americans to their great credit reacted in a remarkably tolerant manner. No enraged mobs burning mosques, no imams lynched in the streets, nothing but a very small number of hate crimes targeting Muslims. But you gotta wonder how Americans will react when it happens again, with an even greater loss of life."

I for one am justifyably proud that very few Muslims were physically persecuted following 911. Some were and that's unfortunate. And some yahoos mistook Sikhs for Islamists - quite a joke actually. Unfortunately, I do not expect to be able to say again this should another major terror attack occur in the US.
Internment of Muslims for being Muslims would be counterproductive. My concern is that the cultural image we have of the WWII Japanese situation is today prohibiting folks like Norm Mineta and congress from profiling Middle Eastern and Souteeast Asian Muslims and taking action where necessary when and if we do have some evidence of terrorist connection. And yes, like on TV you do want some folks left "free" under covert observation to see where and to whom they lead investigators.
