I agree with most of what Scott says about Iran and Carter. Again, I have the highest regard for Jimmy Carter as a human being. However Carter had no concept of "real politic". Carter didn't understand basic evil and made many unwise decisions. He could know more comprehend the Ayatolla Khomeini, than a blind man understand color.
The "current terrorist era" predates the collapse of Iran. Remember the various antics of Palestinian terrorists? However the rise of Shiite Islamic fundamentalism, the humiliation of the United States, etc. added legitimacy to Islamic based terrorism.
Bush has put us on the correct path but this will be a very difficult road to follow. Thanks to bin Laden, we're taking out all of the nasty places in the world starting with the weak ones first. Afganistan has been neutralized as a terrorist haven. Iraq is about to be pacified as well. Those were the two "easy ones". Next is North Korea and that's going to be tricky because they got nukes. It's not clear how we're going to take out Iran but it is clear that they're next after North Korea. It would be best if the U.N. was not a smoking wreck after we were done with Iraq. The blasted French and Russians need to see the big picture and stop being part of the problem.
