I had no problem with idea of withholding Federal funding from controversial research. Ideally, the Federal government has no real role in pumping money into such things anyway, and there was still private or state funding, and research in other countries. It seemed a good compromise on behalf of those with moral problems with such things.
However, making such research a crime regardless of who funds it is serious overkill, and I don't approve of this action.
