Dramatic Irony

Mary Anne — 3/8/2003 1:43:59 PM (archived)

You realize you quoted MacBeth talking to himself, plotting to murder the king and take over the country? "Do it now, before anyone has a chance to think about it."

Poets only teach obliquely. The verses that reach into our minds have other things to say to us than just their surface meaning. Sometimes -- probably most times -- our unconscious is more intelligent than our conscious personae.
