I did my best here (about two hours) to get original polling questions and answers, but am basically hitting a wall at the polling organizations along the lines of "why should we give you this for free?"
The results I gave were from a poll taken by the Princeton Survey Research Association (PSRA) in 1999.
I first ran across these numbers in this article from the Roper Center for Public Opinion Research. The article was from a larger issue of the publication "Public Perspective." The polling source is described as a cooperative effort between the Henry J. Kaiser Family Foundation, "Public Perspective," and the PSRA, and I am assuming (not certain) it is the same survey. I was unable to track down an original Pew survey on this subject with similar numbers. A survey showing 89 percent of journalists voting for Clinton had some holes in its methodology, so I discarded it.
Short answer: I can find any number of articles quoting various surveys, but I assume those are insufficient for your purposes. The one I am quoting is the one I have found the most information on. I can't track down the original surveys unless I cough up some money, and I'm not that interested in convincing anybody else.
That's about all I want to do unless somebody pays me for this.
