Chinese squelch the idea of approaching the North Korea problem through the U.N.
Security Council diplomats said the United States, backed by France [!] and Britain, has been pressing for the UNSC’s five permanent members to get together to draft a council statement condemning North Korea for failing to meet its international obligations to prevent the spread of nuclear arms.
However China has objected to such a meeting, the diplomats said. China’s UN Ambassador, Wang Yingfan, said Beijing was blocking a meeting because it believed a solution lay in head-to-head talks between Washington and Pyongyang rather than in the UNSC.
So, China and North Korea are apparently demanding that the U.S. act unilaterally on this, instead of through the U.N.
No doubt within days, protestors will take to the streets demanding unilateral U.S. action in North Korea.
My hair is falling out in clumps.
Other than the obvious and all-too-common motive of setting up America for failure, what's the point of this position?
I'd sure like to see a little help with the world situation from somebody else for a goddam change. I'd like to see France and Germany actually obey the weapons embargo in Iraq. I'd like to see Russia stop building reactors in lunatic nations. I'd like to see China do something about North Korea, which it could easily accomplish if it wanted to, and without military action.
For God's sake, if they can't help us put out the fires, they could at least stop throwing gasoline.
What the HELL do they want, anyway?
