The USA of 1944, the one that liberated Europe from Nazi's nightmare is also the USA that initiated the United Nations Organizations.
One of it's fundamental principles is the non-intervention in internal affairs of states.
There have continuously been local wars, since 1945, but thanks to the two blocks watching each other , they were always contained to the areas concerned.
Iraq is not occupying any country in 2003, contrary to Germany in 1944.
Today, in 2003, the US is on the verge of going against this principle.
Democracies, yes even those that have been liberated in 1944, don't agree.
It's their right not to agree. And we respect the UN principles.
The US white house administration of 2003 isn't at all like the one in 1944.
