the differences stem from a classic thought: the "infidels". Arabs, Jordians, Palastinians, and what-have-yous were depicted in Europe as dephilers of the Holy Cities... Constantinopel (now Istanbul) and, of course, Jerusalem. the "hatred" you're looking for is a classic method of teaching fear, thus hate.
check any contemporary world history book or even try to find the BANNED Bugs Bunny WWII cartoon; you'll find images of Germans depicted as fearsome night creatures best exterminated and in the Bugs Bunny cartoon there's a Japanese soldier hideously characatured and being refered to as a "Nip" and a "Slant-eye"
in short, Bowser, it's old news... take a month read the Bible, the Torah and the Koran find a soap box and tell them all.
Nothing in the world is more dangerous than sincere ignorance and conscientious stupidity.
