One of the ex-generals who have joined the punditocracy (don't recall name, sorry) said that up until a few months ago Rumsfeld was arguing that it would take no more than air power and two brigades to take Iraq. And that the only reason we have the troops we do is because Franks fought hard to have them. And that Franks would have preferred to have more, but was denied.
