Plus the mines could be an impediment to US forces if they had to move back over those areas (I didn't say retreat).
I wondered why the Iraqis didn't mine the roads leading to Baghdad - not enough time, not enough mines? Or was there an effective mine sweeping component to the US columns? (how would they do that at speed?)
