I had a couple of uncles in WWII that fought on Okinawa. They told stories of how Japanese prisoners would often "get sick" and die on the way to collection points.
We also fire bombed cities and deliberately inflicted civilian casualties because winning the war was more important than the lives of enemy civilians.
