What I took note of was their explanation of how they set up the deployment strategy of the war.

The media take on it is that we are desperately mobilizing soldiers we thought we wouldn't need in the face of obstacles discovered last week.

The briefers explained it differently--that the popular take on it is exactly backwards.

The overall war plan (my words, not a quote) was to mobilize the maximum expected number of troops and equipment in a timed sequence, with the capacity to shut off the tap at any point if somehow we got lucky with the "shock and awe" routine.

Given the impossibility of ramping up a cold deployment in less than several weeks, this not only sounds like a good plan, but it sounds a lot more likely to be true than the media take on it.

So basically, we aren't responding frantically to the course of the war, we are simply allowing the original staged plan to continue instead of shutting it down as we would have if the regime had folded as fast as they hoped.

Hey, if the regime HAD given up on that long shot, these planners would be heroes.
