A lot of sources (not too reliable) are speculating that Saddam and some of his goons have already fled Baghdad, and maybe even Iraq.
Considering the expense and effort he put into constructing his nuke-proof hidey-hole, I would be extremely surprised if it didn't include a miles-long escape tunnel that popped out somewhere way out in the sticks or in an out of the way town. Come to that, it wouldn't have been that hard to sneak him out by conventional means in the trunk of a car or something during the early days of the war.
What's odd about this is the "Brave Last Stand" behavior from the goons left behind. Don't know why they would hold out under Coalition punishment once Fearless Leader has buggered out like brave Sir Robin. Threats? Loyalty? Who knows?
Why would they behave that way if Saddam were dead for that matter? Are they deluded into thinking that they can win this thing, and could be the next Fearless Leader?
I suppose all this will come out in the end, but I would not be overly shocked if no sign of Saddam is found in Baghdad. Remember how long it took for it to be established that Hitler was dead after WWII, and there were "sightings" of him for years afterwards.
Saddam flown the coop?
