Many of Saddam's henchmen are just as guilty of brutality and corruption as he is. They know that, at best, they'll be tried as war criminals and spend the rest of their lives in prison. More likely, they realize they'd probably get the "Full Mussolini" (NOTE: gruesome photos) treatment from the Iraqi people. Once the Iraqi people realize that Saddam is gone, they're likely to turn on the remnants of his thugocracy to extract some well earned revenge. The thugs realize it, too, and that's why they've fought so hard.

As for Saddam, his will be an obituary I'll read with pleasure when the time comes. For all any of us knows, he has been dead for the past 2 weeks or he could be hiding out in France with Baby Doc.
