Nope, you did the right thing, and you seem to be picking up on local conventions with alacrity. This is how it's done.

Just a note: Threads don't "pass on". That thread is residing happily in Back Page Heaven. You can visit it by clicking the "Next" button at the bottom of the page. Also, you can bookmark a post to memorialize it in perpetuity; pages are static and permanent, not generated from a database.

You're doing fine, and your participation is positive. Two thumbs up (but not in the sense the gesture's used in the Arab world!).
