On the use of the word 'Hero'
I started noticing a while back that every casualty of the war is being called an "American Hero". It bothered me a bit, in no way because the troops lack courage and bravery, but simply because overuse and indiscriminate application of the word will devalue it.
In that spirit, I nominate PFC Lynch for the title of Hero with a capital "H". She demonstrated standout courage and set a standard that will become legend. She fought like a hellcat long after her situation was hopeless.
I think it means something that the Iraqis spared her life. They saw something in her that provoked even their respect.
