It's as simple as this to me
If we get a bloody nose or if it is even a close call, I and many others were wrong and you along with the overwhelming force proponents were right.
If things continue to go along as they are now, there is no excessive risk factor (we were lucky) for you and the other detractors to fall back on. One side or the other was just dead wrong and should gracefully admit it.
The 4th is still enroute and the possibility that they may arrive soon enough to get into the fight changes nothing.
