I was thinking the other way...
We really don't need the silo based missile systems anymore.
If someone launched a first strike against us, we could more than respond via aircraft, submarines, etc...
I just don't see where we need a Missile command anymore.
It was always used for deterant purposes, but I think it is probably clear to anyone in the world that to launch a first strike against the US would be equivilant to suicide.
