How about a referendum one year from now in Iraq (or earlier, whenever the Iraqi people can be confident their individual votes are anonymous) asking the Iraqi people whether the invasion was justified?
Sure, the vote would be colored by the war's aftermath, but most people who feel strongly about this issue seem fairly confident that the aftermath will support their position, so they shouldn't complain about the "hindsight is 20-20" issue. From my perspective, I'm willing to trade some of the referendum's accuracy in portraying what the Iraqi people want now, if the looming referendum would persuade the Bush admin. to do a good (less awful) job in Iraq than I anticipate.
I'm curious about people's reaction on this board. I expect people who have been very confident about their views on either side of the spectrum might find this idea a little worrying. I'm also very serious about this idea.
After-the-fact referendum in Iraq?
