Re: Congress passes stupid

The exact wording of the bill says...

"To prohibit an individual from knowingly opening, maintaining, managing, controlling, renting, leasing, making available for use, or profiting from any place for the purpose of manufacturing, distributing, or using any controlled substance, and for other purposes."

I don't think it's a bad idea to keep someone from profiting from an illegal activity, or hold them accountable for doing so.

It also calls on the U.S. Sentencing Commission to, "consider amending the Federal sentencing guidelines to provide for increased penalties such that those penalties reflect the seriousness of offenses involving GHB and the need to deter them"

I can't imagine that even the pro-drug lobby (which I realize, you're not a part of) could possibly support GHB. We're not talking about a recreational drug that the federal government supposedly has no business telling anyone they can't get high on. We're talking about a substance that is given to an unwilling victim, usually female, in order to render them defenseless from an attack such as being raped.

I'll conceed that this portion of the bill could be viewed as being 'snuck in.' But I just can't go along with the thought that it's altogether stupid.
