Re: Congress passes stupid

Sorry about a slight computer problem trying to respond here.

Thanks for the information on this bill. On its face, it would be difficult not to agree with it.

But in the context of the "War on Drugs" the picture takes on a different hue. We do not really need additional legislation that won't work.

The war on drugs, is a war we have lost long ago. Nixon declared this war in 1971 and told us that the $10 billion pledged to fighting the war would end drug problems in 10 years.

Thirty-two years later we spend $20 billion a year at the Fed level, and another $19 billion at the state level. We don't need more laws with more criminal penalties to fill more prisons.

We do need drug education and treatment--which no one seems to be proposing.

And BTW, no mention is made in the law proposed for MDMA, Ruphies, Nazi speed, Ma Da, X, or any of the other designer drugs that are so popular today. And, don't forget the oxycotin and ritalin and vicadin and ad nauseum that are both legal and lethal.

We live in a drug dependent society and it should be obvious that our past approach to this problem is not, and has not worked. We need to drop back and punt. Starting over on this one.
