Time Travel is one of the great chestnuts of Sci-Fi. HG Wells, of course, Spider Robinson, RAH, and many many others have used that great plot tool to wonderful effect.
Kurt Vonnegut had a lot fun with it in Slaughterhouse Five.
It would not be illegal to be from the future and trade stocks, imho.
And if it was, I would do more like David Bowie's character in "The Man Who Fell to Earth" (not quite a time travel yarn) and hire an attorney, first thing.
Hiding a great scam in a legal cloak would be very appropriate for a clever being from the future.
But Tom points out a great question:
Why would anyone from the future want to go live in the primitive past?
After all, we are the past for beings 200 years upstream from us.
Spider Robinson dealt with that by having his Traveller be an ancient coin dealer....
