Re: Someone said

I don't know if this was only the second time an A-10 was successfully landed without hydraulics. There were some A-10s in the 1991 Gulf War that took a lot of combat damage and managed to land. Perhaps they didn't lose all hydraulics, I honestly don't know. The A-10s dual hydraulic systems are shielded and are routed through different parts of the plane to reduce the chances of losing both systems. Still, it happened.

What I do know is that KC showed some exceptional piloting ability to recover an out-of-control aircraft and fly it home while probably still being shot at. She kept her head in a difficult and dangerous situation and did all the right moves. Without the hydraulics, she had no power assist for the controls, no wing flags, and only an emergency braking system. With all the damage and without the hydraulics, the plane probably handled like a drunk pig. Damned good airmanship, IMO.
