...well, about the Saddam part, anyway :-)
From what I've read about him, he's actually quite intelligent and a skilled manipulator of people's loyalties.
It's more the pity, really, because with his political skills he may have been able to make a credible go of it without all the brutal Stalinist nonsense.
But there certainly seems to be a part of his psyche that is widely separated from anything resembling reality...and can it be held that he ever had the best interests of the Iraqi people at heart? I don't know.
