We have a regularly scheduled set of protestors here at the various military bases. They show up like clockwork and show their signs, typically along the order of "Don't militarize space" (too late, space has been militarized since Sputnik). They're harmless. I honestly wonder sometimes if they expect that someday, a defense contractor or military member is going to see their sign, slap his forehead and say, "Why of course! I've been wrong all along! I can't do this any more!" More likely, they're exercising their right to feel morally superior to the rest of us.
Back in the late 1980s, they were a more entertaining bunch. My favorite protest was when they released a buffalo into Falcon AFB (now Schriever AFB) with the motto of turning the facility back into pairie. It was funny watching the security police trying to capture the buffalo but they managed after a time. I wonder if the protestors were hoping some young SP would shoot the buffalo in order to spark outrage in the animal rights movement. The buffalo was captured unharmed but I don't know what became of it. We did notice that the hamburgers in the mess hall tasted a bit different for a while, but that may not mean anything.
