I knew you'd appreciate the pun, R ;)
Thing is (you probably remember my post at the time), I've always supported the notion of 'police action' against Saddam (and Milosevic, and others like them). I favor the institution of a standing international force to do the job, with due proces and the whole nine yards. I even think that if Bush and Blair had played the humanitarian card first, and kept it on top, there might be more than US and UK troops on the ground there now and a lot less ill feeling in the world about performing an odious but necessary task.
But they waffled big-time, kept changing their stated priority to suit the moment, and ought not to be surprised at the reaction after what they finally decided was Reason #1 didn't pan out. Civilian posses - a.k.a. vigilantes - only had marginal success in the "Old West" until the real lawmen got established. Besides a stable, non-despotic government in Iraq (and Afghanistan), the thing I'd like to see most out of all this is the end to posses and the swearing in of real lawmen (and women) - Due process with teeth.

The whole thread (20 posts)
- Big Lie; Big Excuse; Big Deal (more of a blog than a flame)
- "If We Knew Where It Was -- Why Don't We Know Where It Is?"
- Why is this in 'Flame'?
- Probably one of the most reasonable takes on it I've seen all week.
- For me, 6 of one and half a dozen of the other.
- A good and reasonable position
- What most people are failing to remember...
