Some may remember that the Dust Accumulation and Removal Technology (DART) Experiment was to be flown on the cancelled Mars 2001 Surveyor Lander. And yes, the MERs are severely mass constrained due to, among other things, the growth in mass associated with beefing up the airbag system.
