Well, Europeans had colonized countries in the past and withdrew from them en masse after WW2.
Many are upset that the UK took part to the war out of nostalgy for a lost empire.
It's true I also thought that an independant privately owned press was the best way to be free.
Now, I have doubts.
When sponsors don't like the editorial of a newspaper, they won't go on sponsoring it.
Meaning the press is depending on the goodwill of its sponsors.
Freedom is a relative notion.
