Update on non-standard characters in subject lines

In the post above I advised using ampersand character codes in subject lines when you want to use a non-standard (symbol or accented) character. I used one of those sequences in my subject line, and found that it didn't work. As you can see on the inner table of contents below, what comes out is the escape sequence and not the character it's supposed to represent (I had to edit the main table of contents by hand to change it to "slashed-O" to make it even show up in the TOC).

So, since the escape sequences aren't working, I ask that you please just not use those characters until I figure out some software fix for it.
