If you want a poverty pissing contest, my family has been dirt farmers back as far as our records go. Oddly, they had tough times during the Great Depression too. My dad was the first generation to go to college. My family lived in an Airstream trailer behind my Grandpa's farm house for the first years of my life. I had a hand-made piece of furniture until I left for college that had originally had a back curved to fit the trailer wall.
But that's neither here nor there.
I just find terms like "party of the people" or "party of the working family" highly irritating, since it's simply thinly disguised class warfare, rhetoric that works on people who like to go through life in an emotional mental fog. Which is why I immediately challenge anyone who uses it to define precisely who exactly is a "people" and who isn't, or exactly which families in American don't qualify as "working."
I know what makes a nation successful. And it isn't welfare and wealth redistribution. Although to hear the Democrats talk, government is responsible for every bit of human progress that ever happened.
Just out of curiosity, who do you think would make the best President of all the current or recent politicians? Feel free to go outside the main parties. Me, I wish Goldwater had won back then. Closest thing to a libertarian we've seen yet, or are likely to see from the Republican Party.
