Care to ennumerate and expound? Give it a try, Tom....

The short answer is a government that places individual rights above the collective and the State, and the inevitable corrolary, free market capitalism. You can argue philosophy all day long--and I have, to some people's regret--but you can't argue the many textbook examples throughout history.

In the end, I'd like to see the whole pack of both parties 'retired' and a fresh new generation of smart, tech savvy folks come in. Ones that are really fierce about individual rights in the information age. Ones that are free-marketeers with strong anti-monopolist traits. Ones that also understand the profound importance of social safety nets. Ones unpolluted by the absurd calvinism of the past.

I am in surprisingly large agreement with this. It would be nice if our congressmen knew something about technology, considering they have assumed control over large segments of our economy (re: the Europeans and that jackass Hatch) The other solution is to pry them loose from the economy, but that's another discussion. Respect for individual rights is a must. The trick is extending this to economic activity, which seems to be a blind spot with many politicians.

"free-marketeers with strong anti-monopolist traits. Ones that also understand the profound importance of social safety nets."

Sounds good, with the problem being a matter of degree. "Anti-monopolist traits" does not mean cutting the knees out from under anyone who has more money than you think they should have. And a "social safety net" should not be interpreted as cradle-to-grave provision of every human need by the State. A social safety net that occupies over half the Federal Budget is probably a bit too wide.
