"nitronium" equals amonium? Not at all! It is something else entirely.

Nitronium perchlorate is NO2ClO4.

Nitronium = NO2+

Ammonium = NH4+

Nitronium perchlorate has more available oxygen than just about any other solid at room temperature.

Nitronium perchlorate decomposes as follows: 2*NO2ClO4 = N2 + Cl2 + 6*O2 + heat

Ammonium perchlorate decomposes as follows: 2*NH4ClO4 = N2 + Cl2 + 4*H2O + 2*O2 + heat
