Lie.
Fifty-four Americans have died in accidents or military action since President Bush declared the war ended on May 1, equal to more than one-third of the 139 wartime deaths.
The Left is going to try to slide this past us. Bush did NOT declare the war "ended."
The actual speech can be found here. Bush announced that "major combat operations had ended." That is, we aren't rolling columns of tanks into enemy positions, or raining bombs and cruise missiles down on enemy positions.
Nowhere did Bush indicate that the military could put their rifles away and start walking around in berets. In fact, in the rest of the speech, the President twice refers to the remaining work to be done as "dangerous."
