a prediction (aka the McFly effect)

I don't make these here very often, as they are like handing your debate sparring partners a billy-club. The only one I made before this was the 'Shia-Sunni-Kurd Stew' prediction, before the start of the war, that Iraq would become our own west bank. I'm not exactly sure I should be proud of being bourne out on that one, what with 1-or-2 dead americans a day. Ltes just say I would prefer to have been wrong. In fact, I was suposed to 're-post' that prediction back at the start of May, but I 'forgot'.

But this prediction stems from faith in the integrity of the 'other side' of the debate. My prediction is that folks in the right-hand-side of congress, across america and here on the habitablezone are going to start taking, quietly, large steps away from the administration.

The fact is that one thing I can always count on the Right side of the debate is a very profound sense of integrity. Included in that is the desire to holdp people accountable for their screw-ups, and to hold people accountable for being less than honest.

Unless the Yeti Lives, and we find serious WMD caches in Iraq, and SOON, this administration will require one of two titles: Liar or Negligent.

Some partisans will march on, and I think that even the 'side steppers' will probably vote for bush in the next election. But here in a month or maybe two, it will no longer be possible to clain: "hold on there, they are not done looking" or "just wait". Here in a month or two it will be pretty obvious. Either we were lied to, or a 10-pound-ball was dropped on the toe of the american people. I am even willing to predict that a libertarian/indpendent will emerge based on this issue.

And dispite my pissiness with those on the right- here and elswhere, integrity is usually the one quality they have in spades. At least those who matter. I am willing to bet that interesting times are ahead for those seated honestly on the right.
