White House admits factual error in State of the Union address
The president's statement was incorrect because it was based on forged documents from the African nation of Niger, White House spokesman Ari Fleischer acknowledged.

That's all fine and well, but where is the essential, amplifying comment about the CIA's much earlier finding (9 months before Pres. Bush's State of the Union address) that the documents in question were clumsy forgeries.
Fleischer's admission amounts to what is known as a limited hang-out, but recall that a false statement meant to mislead is a lie. Pres. Bush cannot but have known that he based so much of his case against Iraq on bogus documents.
If that's not a Big Lie, I don't know what is.
(Well, actually, it is, and I do.)
