Artist's rendition

In the pic S_M started the thread with, the aircraft skin is too smooth overall; not enough detail. Both photos of real Gripens include squadron markings on the nose gear cover, which also seems to have a distinct semispherical bump just starboard of the midline; missing from the missile-launch image. There are other markings on the real Gripens, forward of the intakes, missing from the rendering.

The perspective is off, too: the launched missle in foreground is out of scale with the Gripen - that is, too close to the POV to have just been launched, or just rendered too big. That it's the dominant object in the image suggests to me the image might even be part of a sales pitch for the missile.

Once I got to thinking about it, here's the real kicker: If S_M's original post were a photograph, to freeze all of the foreground elements with such relative lack of blurring due to motion, the camera's aperture and shutter speed settings would give it 'infinite' depth of field. The clouds in the background would not be streaked.

It's impressive, even cool, but it ain't real.
