you're confusing your inability to percieve mega-tsunami impact data with a lack of it.
While you may want to pay for a manned flight to Mars, you're in a minority which is gowing smaller all the time. Most of the public would prefer spending their money of finding the next one of these things to hit well before it does - and it does not matter to them if the risk is larger or smaller, they want it dealt with first.
