I was aware of the aerospike design,
It is ideal for a new design, but I was thinking about engines on existing launch systems like the shuttle. It would be far too expensive to mount aerospike engines onto the shuttle's existing airframe. By creating a pleated nozzle, the amount of modification needed to the existing vehicle would be minimal while the increase in performance would be significant. It's just a thought, not sure if it's feasible though.
