I for one think Liberia is a worthy place to send troops. If it weren't for the fact that we are extended all over the globe currently, I'd be more in favor of it.
here's a list of reasons in no particular order
Pros-
• Liberia is asking for help
• The US has a paternal relationship to Liberia
• Helping Liberia will help our image in Africa
• A lot of people are senselessly dying
• Liberia was once a Democracy, and Liberians seem to want Democracy back
• The UN is willing to step in with us (some here may not see that as a pro, but I think the UN still has some potential to be a worthwhile organization if it could just shrug off the corruption)
Cons-
• Our troops are very extended at the moment. (I won't say over-extended since I'm not a logistician and have no practical experience in the matter)
• It could get ugly like Somalia was.
• We could be there for a long time.
To me the Pros seem to outnumber the Cons. The one pivotal question to me is that of overextension which for me is a showstopper if we just haven't the manpower.
